It was officially approved by the former Ministry of Petroleum Industry in 1980, began nationwide public distribution in 1981, and was published by the Daqing City Post Office starting in 1982. Its postal distribution code is 14-90. In 1987, it became an internationally distributed periodical and is published bi-monthly. In 2012, it was renamed the Journal of Northeast Petroleum University. The domestic unified continuous publication number is CN 23-1582/TE, the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is 2095-4107, and the foreign distribution code is BM5564. The journal is governed by the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Education and is hosted by Northeast Petroleum University, with the editorial office being the Journal of Northeast Petroleum University Editorial Department. The journal adheres to the principles of a hundred schools of thought contending and a hundred flowers blooming, timely reporting on research achievements from Northeast Petroleum University and the national petroleum and petrochemical industry, disseminating scientific information, exchanging academic ideas, and promoting the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. It serves the high-tech development of China's petroleum and petrochemical industries and contributes to the country's modernization. The journal publishes academic papers with high theoretical and application value primarily in the fields of oil and gas geology and exploration, petroleum and natural gas engineering, oilfield chemical engineering, and petroleum machinery engineering, as well as in computer and automation engineering, construction science, economic management, fundamental sciences, and other areas. The Journal of Northeast Petroleum University is a core journal in Chinese and a core journal in Chinese science and technology, recognized as an RCCSE core academic journal in China and a statistical source journal for the Annual Report on Academic Journal Impact Factors in China. It is included in the T2-level high-quality science and technology journal classification directory for both the petroleum and natural gas industry and the earth sciences published by the Science and Technology Innovation Department of the China Association for Science and Technology. In 1999, it was awarded Excellent Science and Technology Journal and the Second Prize for National Higher Education Natural Science Journals from the Ministry of Education. In 2000, it received the First Prize for Excellent Science and Technology Journals from the Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Department and the Outstanding Award for the CAJ-CD Norm from the Editorial Committee of Chinese Academic Journals (CD Edition).
