China Daily website CHINADAILY.COM.CN China Daily Agency Communication Network I. Building a Globalized and Segmented Communication Network China Daily actively promotes media convergence, development, and innovation, operating a globalized, segmented, multilingual, all-media communication system composed of traditional media, mobile media, and social media. With a total all-media user base exceeding 400 million, it is the preferred Chinese English-language media outlet for high-end audiences both at home and abroad. China Daily was first published on June 1, 1981. Its readership mainly consists of high-level figures from various sectors, foreign envoys stationed in China, representatives of international organizations, senior executives of multinational corporations in China, media professionals, as well as foreign visitors and tourists. China Daily Global Edition was launched on January 2, 2019, along with its website, mobile app, and social media accounts. It effectively integrated existing overseas editions—including the U.S., U.K., Europe, Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Canada editions—highlighting China’s position, an international perspective, depth of coverage, and integrated communication. It has been established as the main channel and new platform to tell China’s stories and present China’s voice to the world. The Global Edition is published Monday to Friday, with a 16-page broadsheet daily and a 32-page weekend edition every Friday. It is printed in full color at 33 printing locations worldwide, with an average circulation of 300,000 copies per issue, reaching high-end readers in 63 countries and regions. China Daily Hong Kong Edition, launched in 1997, is the only English-language newspaper authorized by the central government to be published in Hong Kong after its return to China. It has since developed into a multimedia platform that includes a website and social media presence. Domestically, China Daily operates 35 bureaus and correspondent offices along with 14 printing sites. Overseas, it has established four regional command centers in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the United States, under which additional bureaus and offices operate. China Daily also runs the 21st Century English Education Media group, targeting English learners in China from primary through high school. It has developed into a full-media education institution, creating the “21st Century English Education Media” brand. II. Improving the All-Media, Three-Dimensional Communication Matrix In line with the central government’s strategic deployment to promote media convergence, China Daily has adapted to the transformation of traditional media, vigorously advancing all-media development, restructuring its news production workflow, and building a modern, three-dimensional communication system. It employs a coordinated approach: in-depth interpretation in print, real-time updates online, rolling coverage via mobile platforms, and deep interactive guidance on social media. It has become an important position in China’s international communication efforts and is among the most frequently reprinted Chinese information sources by foreign media. The China Daily website, launched in 1995, was one of the earliest national-level media websites in China. It has since developed into a comprehensive, national-level news portal and the most influential English-language website in China, providing multimedia information services to internet users worldwide. Alongside strengthening its website, China Daily has launched an English-language app and expanded its influence on social media platforms such as Weibo, WeChat, Facebook, and Twitter, both domestically and internationally. As of December 2022, the app had been downloaded more than 39 million times worldwide, making it the only English-language news app in China with over 10 million downloads. Its Weibo account has more than 64.95 million followers; its WeChat subscription account has 26.4 million subscribers; its Facebook account has more than 105 million followers—ranking second globally among media accounts; and its Twitter account has approximately 4.2 million followers. III. Building International and Diversified Communication Channels To meet the needs of segmented communication and major country outreach, China Daily has actively engaged in content-syndication partnerships with leading international media outlets. As early as 1992, it launched China Report (the predecessor of China Watch), distributed with the Publisher’s Auxiliary run by the National Newspaper Association of the United States. Currently, China Watch collaborates with more than 30 leading media outlets in over 20 countries, including Time Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Financial Times (U.S. edition), The Globe and Mail (Canada), Mainichi Shimbun (Japan), El País (Spain), Rossiyskaya Gazeta (Russia), Argumenty i Fakty (Kazakhstan), Bangkok Post (Thailand), The Jakarta Post (Indonesia), The Philippine Star, The News International (Pakistan), The Star (Malaysia), The Star (South Africa), Daily Nation (Kenya), The Punch (Nigeria), The Reporter (Ethiopia), Cronista Comercial (Argentina), and La Capital (Argentina). Published in seven languages—English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese—it has an average circulation of 5 million copies, reaching opinion leaders and high-level readers in politics, business, and academia across major countries worldwide. Beyond syndication, China Daily engages in extensive cooperation with major global media organizations, including Reuters, the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, TASS, RT (Russia Today), Bloomberg, and the BBC. In Asia, China Daily is a core member of the Asia News Network (ANN), which comprises 24 leading media outlets from 20 countries, including China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, and India. China Daily works closely with ANN members on joint reporting, content sharing, and staff exchanges, covering 40 million readers across Asia.
