光明日报简介 光明日报创刊于1949年6月16日，是中共中央主办，以知识分子为主要读者对象的思想文化大报。 与时俱进，不断发展。光明日报在中国特色社会主义的伟大历程中不断发展壮大， 由创刊时出版一张对开四版报纸的报社，发展成为拥有《光明日报》《文摘报》《中华 读书报》及《书摘》《博览群书》《新天地》《留学》《教育家》杂志，以及光明日报 出版社、光明网、光明日报“两微一端”等全媒体的现代化报业集团。 光明日报在全国设有37个记者站，在世界23个国家和地区派有常驻记者，读者遍 及社会各界和120多个国家和地区，报纸发行量达100多万份。

Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Guangming Daily Introduction to Guangming Daily Guangming Daily was founded on June 16, 1949, under the sponsorship of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). It is a major ideological and cultural newspaper targeted primarily at intellectuals. As an important platform for the CPC to guide ideological work and as a bridge and link between the Party and the country and the broad intellectual community, Guangming Daily has received the warm attention and care of CPC leaders including MAO Zedong, DENG Xiaoping, JIANG Zemin, HU Jintao, XI Jinping, and successive Party leadership collectives since its inception. Upon its founding, veteran proletarian revolutionaries such as MAO Zedong, ZHOU Enlai, and ZHU De wrote inscriptions for Guangming Daily. MAO Zedong’s inscription was: “Unite together, and brightness is in sight--congratulations on the publication of Guangming Daily.” He also made many important comments and instructions on various reports, articles, and discussions published by the newspaper. DENG Xiaoping wrote inscriptions for the 40th anniversary of Guangming Daily and for the publication of A Collection of Discussions on the Criterion of Truth, stating: “Forty years of Guangming Daily” and “Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth.” Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with XI Jinping at its core has issued a series of important instructions to further improve the work of Guangming Daily. Marching with truth, keeping pace with the times--Guangming Daily, rooted in the intellectual community and oriented toward the entire society, has played an important role in uniting, connecting, guiding, and serving intellectuals. It has become a strong promoter of socialist modernization and cultural prosperity with Chinese characteristics. On May 11, 1978, Guangming Daily published a signed editorial article titled “Practice is the Sole Criterion for Testing Truth”, which had a profound impact on Chinese social development and marked a significant event ushering China into a new historical period. On June 21, 2005, then Party Secretary of Zhejiang Province XI Jinping published an article in Guangming Daily titled “Carry Forward the ‘Red Boat Spirit’ and Lead the Way in the New Era,” in which he first proposed and elaborated on the “Red Boat Spirit”--the founding spirit of the Communist Party of China. The pioneering spirit, striving spirit, and dedication spirit embodied in the “Red Boat Spirit” have since become a powerful spiritual support for upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics. Entering the new era, Guangming Daily, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, has firmly established the “Four Consciousnesses,” strengthened the “Four Confidences,” and resolutely upheld the “Two Maintenances.” It continuously reinforces the awareness of running a politically-oriented newspaper, and clearly advocates new concepts such as “focusing on both Party building and journalism” and “resonating on the same frequency.” The positioning and characteristics of Guangming Daily as a leading ideological and cultural newspaper have been further emphasized. A number of supplements and special editions with intellectual depth and cultural sophistication have become widely appreciated by readers. Keeping up with the times and continuously developing--In the great journey of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, Guangming Daily has grown from a four-page broadsheet at its founding into a modern newspaper group that owns Guangming Daily, Digest Paper, Chinese Reading Weekly, as well as magazines such as Selections, Reading Panorama, New World, Study Abroad, and The Educator, along with Guangming Daily Press, gmw.cn, and “two microblogs and one app”(Weibo, WeChat, and Mobile App) platforms--forming a full-fledged multimedia ecosystem. Guangming Daily has established 37 news bureaus across China and has resident correspondents in 23 countries and regions worldwide. Its readership covers all walks of life in over 120 countries and regions, with a circulation exceeding one million copies.
